Montrose Rams @ Millington Cardinals

It took some time and even a 6-0 deficit after the first quarter but Millington eventually woke up and went on a 28-3 scoring run the rest of the way to defeat a scrappy Montrose squad.  Bryce Bearss passed for 159 yards and a score, Cameron Henderson led the receivers with 5 catches for 73 yards and Jared Roehl led the rushing attack with 58 yards and 2 scores.  Roehl also led the defense with 8 tackles and 2 TFLs.  For the complete box score and game stats, click here.

Millington will host Detroit Central Collegiate on Friday Night at 7PM.

Over the past 13 years that I have covered HS Football in Michigan and from what I hear, it went on long before that, Montrose and Millington are two of a kind when it comes to work ethic, community love of football and hard nosed coaching staffs.  Tonight, both teams will square off for the first time since their 2012 District Final meeting.  I remember that game, it was a wild Saturday afternoon game, with an injury that caused a stoppage of the game for at least 20 minutes and wild swings of momentum back and forth.  The Rams went on to win, at home 33-28.  This time, the Cardinals will be the hosts and looking to avenge the loss.  Montrose didn’t have an easy time getting into the post-season, at one point sitting at 3-3.  But then the Rams railed off 3 straight wins and capped that off with a 31 point win last week in the playoff opener.  Millington, outside of the rough rivalry game with Frankenmuth, their only loss, has coasted through the season and has done it with great balance on offense, tremendous depth and a talented defense that can make you pay.  It all starts with Millington QB Bryce Bearss, who has thrown for almost 2,000 yards and over 20 scores, along with the TVC East’s leading rusher, Brady Payne.  Kohlton Sherman and Cameron Henderson were the East’s 2nd and 3rd leading receivers.  The Cards essentially have a stable of running backs and receivers with very little drop-off.  On defense, the Cards are very deep led by the likes of Jared Roehl, Briar Bearss and Nate Eickhoff.
